Clean up the registry also?

Like many others here, Photoshop 7 has stopped working and hangs up when I try to start it. It simply stops while "loading preference files." I have reinstalled a couple of times. I have also deleted the preference files (using control/alt/shift) during start up but it doesn’t seem to help either. It still hangs up when I reinstall it. Could the problem be in my registry files? Could there be an entry continuing to point Photoshop to a bad file? I downloaded a nifty free program called "RegSeeker" that shows me there are about 50 references to Photoshop 7 listed there. Should I delete these files also or am I just opening another "can of worms?"
