David,
If you highlight your text, Hit CTRL+H to Hide the selection and then scroll through your font list, the text will be displayed in each font in turn.
Just remember that any HTML text (as oposed to rasterized text on images) relies on the particular font being available on the User’s machine – otherwise it will display with their browser’s default font.

Use embedded fonts to avoid font replacement in browsers that support embedded fonts.

No need to highlight the text. Just target ther text layer in the Layers Palette, highlight the name of the font in the Character Palette, and use the Up and Down arrows on your keyboard to step through different fonts. Your document display will update automatically.
Now…that we can’t do this in Illustrator has bothered me for years.
You have just given me a wonderful holiday gift! I have used Photoshop for three years now, and yes, I have looked through the manual, but I did not know about this method of viewing the actual text selected. I can’t tell you how many times I have wished to preview the font on my page like this.
I just want to send my thanks for this, and so many other revelations of that kind here on this forum.
A blessing on your computer!
