Newbie question: how do I add a thin line to one side of an image?

I need to add a thin line to the side of an image, say 1 pixel in thickness.

What would be the best way to do this?

I can think of a few ways… but these would all be invlovling creating a new image of the line, copying the entire image and pasting onto the existing image.
I’m sure there ware better and easier ways?

Take layer styles and stroke it with a 1 pixel black line. There are other ways which I am sure will be suggested.

Choose the color you want as the foreground.
Open the paint brush tool and select a 1 pixel, hard edge brush. Start your line in a corner. Hold down the shift key and draw the brush across an edge of the image. The Shift Key constrains the line to be exactly horizontal or vertical so you don’t have to be real careful while drawing the line.

I think the easiest and most precise way is to go to
image > canvas size >
and depending where you want the line – add 1 pixel to the width or height and click on the arrow in the anchor picture graphic to make sure the line goes
on the correct side, there is also a colour indicator to allow you to choose what
colour you require.
This may sound complicated – but it is an easy way to add a border on one side,
two sides or all sides. If you set the background colour before you start – this is the
default colour used for the line.

You might also consider the single column marquee tool to make a selection, then fill the selection with the color of your choice.

How about using the rectangular Marquee tool to select the whole image and Stroking with 1 pixel selected as your stroke size (or more if you want a larger frame). Don’t forget to select the stroke colour too 🙂
