PS7 file super slow in CS

I want a work on a 30MB PSD file that was created in PS7, when I open it I get errors about text layers which I understand. What I don’t understand is the fact that the file is incredibly slow. I cannot possibly work with this file the way it is, just scrolling through it takes ages to render on screen. It works fine in PS7??

are you reading the file from a CD (because that is quite slow compared working on a copy of the file on your hard drive
