In forgetting about the topic of the letter, and only addressing your remark; two questions came to my mind (because I am sure the same remark (about grammer of course) can be made
about my letters as well)
1. Do you keep in mind that a large share of us members do not talk English as home language? That many of us
speak another language at home?
I try to keep that in mind, always. In the case of whomever it was I was laming on grammar, it seemed to me he was English speaking, but boorish. Could be wrong about the language, tho.
Sorry if I’ve been harsh, John; and it was my conclusion as well that he Γ¬s English speaking. Then he deserved it.
I try to never correct grammar or spelling
and there is quite a dif between ‘Strain’ and ‘Merican’. In fact, a Scottish (local) friend was told by his family in Scotland that he can not speak English:-)
I can speak a few languages of which Home Language is Afrikaans, while living in an English city, and Zulu is also one very prominent language here in Kwa ZuluNatal. A real good joke was, when writing in Netherlands on a Netherlands news group, I was sh*t out by a Netherlander because my Netherlands had a tendency towards Afrikaans! He could not take us ‘Amsterdam’s with our funny dialects, he said:-0
unless I catch it in
someone’s post where they’re also miscorrecting something (as Bill did me), or they are repetitive boors.
2. How many languages can you, John, communicate in?
Depends whether you count English, ‘Strain, and ‘Merican as separate languages! I can get by in Spanish, and at one point was fluent in French.
good, and surprising! we usually see Yankee’s and Brits as mono-lingual:-) Hecate said she can also speak Spanish.
I am a descendent of the French, and wish I could speak it, but use therefore will be very limited here.
