I haven’t tested to see if it should work the way you’re doing it, but here’s a workaround that may work.
In your action include "Copy Layer Style" and "Paste Layer Style". So… while recording, you right click on the layer with your drop shadow, and copy layer style, drag your name, then right click on your name in the target image, and paste layer style.
It’s a kludgy way to do it though…
It’s easier to just include typing your name and applying a specific layer style in the action – without bothering to drag it over. Just create it in the action. Set your font, alignment, layer style, the works, and it’s embedded in your action, and you never have to worry about having your original open.
Peace,
Tony
Thanks for your reply. I have little experience with Actions to date.
As you mention, it would make sense to "…include typing your name and applying a specific layer style in the action – without bothering to drag it over." The problem I’m having (sorry I neglected to make it clear earlier)though is that my name or copyright logo is created Artwork instead of editable text.
I have tried different ways of creating the Action…so far…close, but no cigar.
One difficulty I’m having is: I’m using ‘Insert Menu Item…’ for the OPEN command, with the understanding that it will open any files in the folder I choose under AUTOMATE, instead of literally opening the file I used to create the Action.
What happens, instead, is that the Open command plays opening the dialog box for that folder (& waits for the file to be selected & opened).
So far I haven’t found the Adobe documentation to be very helpful. Perhaps my usage is too specific.
Again, your comments were helpful in making me understand Actions.
Back to the battle.
Thanks.
Just a note.
I finally got the Action working!
Gotta like the Batch Command.
Cheers.
Glad it’s working for you.
Another thought is, in your action, instead of copying the layer style and all that, just use Edit|Copy Merged. That will merge visible information and copy it to clipboard, then paste it.
Just a thought.
Peace,
Tony
