Hello There:

I have the option (at work) to replace my assigned camera

(Kodak DX3900) for a Kodak DX6340. We take Real Estate

photos and do lite re-touching w/ Photoshop, and the photos have to be wide, so I wouldn’t want to downgrade instead of upgrading.

I have make up my mind by Tuesday, unfortunately, I am not too technical about cameras.

Below I show the specifications of the camera I have now and

the new one. I would appreciate any help comparing these two.

Thank you in advance.

Lo

I have posted here because I know you guys (& girls) that use

I haven’t found a better review site than:

3.5X Advanced Digital Zoom

You’ll use digital zoom once and then you’ll never use it again. I don’t know why (other than bragging rights) manufacturers even include this worthless feature these days.

www.Dpreview.com is also very good and allows you to download resolution and color targets taken with the cameras.
Once opened side by side in photoshop these downloaded files will give you a clear idea of what to expect.

As long as you’ll find clients for products like Genuine Fractals you’ll find digital zoom on cameras.

This is also a good place to make comparisons between actual camera shots:

The two cameras don’t appear too different. The one standout feature of the alternative you’ve been offered is the 4x optical zoom versus the 2x optical you have now.

In my mind that’s reason enough to take the new camera (especially if someone else is paying). The wider zoom range will make it easier to fill the frame with the properties you photograph. In addition the new camera has (an equivalent) wide angle of 36mm when zoomed out which should capture larger properties.

Being the same brand camera, memory cards and computer
software/interface should be the same making the transition easy.

Hope you make the right choice for you.
