I’d like to be able to take text, rasterize it, and then fill it in with an image, or texture, etc. I found hypertyle that does it but I just don’t have the $50.

put your text on one layer…then your image on another layer…..right click and rasterize your text layer….then go to your your image layer and select all….cut and then then go back to your rastarized text later…and select your rastarized text (the wand is usualy good enough for this)…then chose edit/paste into

Best way:

Put your text on one layer. Put your image on the layer above. Alt-click on the line between the layers to Group them. No rasterizing needed so the text remains editable and both objects can be moved independently if need be. This is called a Clipping Group.

don’t rely on those plugins. Photoshop will do all that you need and the best part is that you don’t have to rasterize your text. All that you have to do is:

Create your text. Make it White on black background. Select one of your channels and make a copy of it. It will look like white text on black background. Open your image (the image that you want to be seen in the text). Make sure that it is in the lower layer (not "background"). Go back to the new copied channel (alpha channel. Click the selection Icon under the Channels window to select the white part. Go back to the layers palette and highlight the image layer. Click the mask button in the layers pallette. Make sure that your original text layer is hidden and that will do it. You will even be able to go back, change the text, change the alpha mask, etc.

Thanks everyone…I knew there was a better way to do that than to rely on a plugin!
