Exporting Photoshop to Illustrator

I have some PSD files of a website. I do not know what PS version they were created with. I cannot open them with Illustrator CS, although many PSD files can be opened with Illustrator. I was able to open the PDS’s with PS 6 at kinko’s and I saved them to PDF’s. Back at home Illustrator could open the PDF’s, but they were one image, not fully sliced and text/graphics editable, as the original PSD files are. Please help!

Illustrator can place PSDs, but the text and layers are not available. Layers might survive, but vector elements will be rasterized with transparency.
