I have 2gb of ddr 400 ecc ram. Do I need a scratch disk?

yep. preferrably on a seperate drive/partition from anything else intensive. I use a 15 GB dedicated partition.

You also need a pagefile. See the FAQ ‘Tuning Photoshop CS’ (even if you have a previous version)

What if I’m stuck with a single 18 gig harddisk (13 gig free)? And what would you recommend for a paging file initial/max size with 512 RAM? Win2K
