Monitor for Professional photoshop useage

My brother is currently considering purchase of a MacPro (after long years as a PC user). He is wondering what the best monitor might be to complement this, e.g. between an Apple 23-inch or 30-inch Cinema Display and a LaCie 321 or other non-Apple monitors to display Photoshop images.

Any suggestions?
