Hi,

I have an image which, not surprisingly, contains several layers.

I want to move the contents of every layer up several pixels, and then reduce the height of the whole image. How can I do this?

Hello Cool Guy,

To change the pixels of a file, go to Image, down to Image Size, and then change the number on Resolution. All layers will change together. In fact, I don’t think layers can have different dpi’s.

To change the size (height or width) on the toolbar choose the crop tool, out line the entire image by clicking on the top left corner and dragging to the bottom right corner. Then adjust the edges of the box you just created to show the part of the image you want shown. Double click and whatever is not in the box is deleted. Hope this helps. Ron

Also if you want to move the contents of every layer at once, you can simply "link" them (it’s the box next to the eye in the layers pallette, should be part of a chain or links). Once you’ve linked all of the layers, just use the arrows keys to nudge them one pixel at a time in any direction.

Ron Laffey there mentioned using the crop tool to change the image size, but if you know exactly how many pixels you want taken from any direction, you can just use Image–>Canvas Size… and reduce it by an exact amount of pixels. Just make sure that you choose the appropriate arrow when you do so, so it will resize the canvas in one direction if that’s what you need.

Changing the Canvas Size has the added advantage of not cutting off anything in any layer that may lie outside the image boundaries, as cropping would do. However, if this "out-of-bounds" stuff, should there be any, ends up being useless, you can crop just to reduce file size.
