under file>there is no "save for web"…..any suggestions? I am using adobe Photoshop image ready CS.

Then "Save Optimized As…" You could do this directly from Photoshop (CTRL+SHFT+M) without using ImageReady, but it can still be done from within ImageReady. Just be sure your Optimize Palette is open and used.
