Jonathan,
i tried deleting the xprefs*.psd file<<
I’ve no idea what file you may be referring to, but the Photoshop preference file has a .psp extension, not a .psd extension.
See the FAQ at the top of this forum’s Topic List for details on deleting the Photoshop preference file
well thanx guys, u all helped a lot… fuckers
Attaboy, git mad, that’ll get answers…
Have you tried delting your preferences? Go to adobe.com, search support for "deleting preferences" or search messages in this ng.
From NAPP website:
Troubleshooting tip
By now you’ve heard the tip that if Photoshop starts acting weird, the first thing to do is delete Photoshop’s Preferences file and restart Photoshop. This will build a factory-fresh set of Preferences that will usually cure the problem. Now, Photoshop 7.0 can make this "trashing-the-Prefs" routine even easier. Just hold the Shift-Option-Command keys (PC: Shift-Alt-Control) when you first launch Photoshop, and you’ll be greeted with a dialog box asking you if you want to delete the Photoshop settings file. Click OK, and Photoshop will then build a new, factory-fresh set of Prefs for you.
Oh — upgrade to 7.0.1. while you’re at it.

Just curious: are you being sarcastic, implying that you didn’t get help?
I wonder, as you were given the answer and didn’t report back to say whether it worked or not.
I think he did give everyone a bunch of info, and people either didn’t read his posts, or just enjoyed toying with him over a typo. I think he was right to get disgusted and leave.
I think he did give everyone a bunch of info,
yea, after 2 1/2 days and 7 posts. then he never got back to us to tell us what worked before cursing us out. [expletive kept to self]
why didn’t you answer him?
ok, im so frustrated over this thing its not funny, if u can help post in here, if u cant dont, u have all the info that i have, noone gave me a solution… except send me the faq, if i found an aswer there i wouldnt have posted this, but please just tell me how to fix it, or at least what can make it better
Jonathan – did you delete the Photoshop prefs as explained in the FAQ?
Also, you need to find a better spelling checker program.
yes i deleted it, and its not that i need abetter spellchecker, its the fact that i dont care
jon, ok. couple of things. did it just start all of a sudden or has it never worked? what did you do last before it started failing? undo it, if possible. (like remove any brushes or plugins you recently installed).
update your video drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
make sure you’re up to date on windows updates.
if they don’t work you need to get drastic:
do a complete uninstall of the app. then delete the entire folder structs from both the program files folder and the application data folder. if you have a registry checker, delete all refs to photoshop and adobe from the registry. restart the system. reinstall. reapply 7.01 patch.
it just started all of a sudden, my image ready still works, but i need my blending options. i never got any patches or new plug ins. my drivers are up to date. all d/l windows updatses are installed. i deleted the program and all of its components, i cant access my registry checker (system admin only) reinstalled, d/l patch… same problem, i cant read the last thing it says, its goes too fast, almost looks like "searching for previosu installs…" but i may be mistaken
Forgive a mere amateur user of Photoshop CS joining in this discussion at this late stage. Jon, as you say the problem suddenly appeared and presumably worked okay in the past, can you try going back to a System Restore Point earlier than the date the problem first appeared? Frequently I find this solves many problems where glitches or gremlins get in the Windows XP system.
the weird thing is jon that a reset prefs will usually clear something like that, especially where IR is still working. if eveything I’ve given you fails to get you started, I’m pretty much tapped out. maybe try adobe tech support. good luck.
I reinstalled it, then hit ctrl, alt, shift and deleted the prefs file and now it works just fine. thanks all who helped, i guess it just took a few tries to get her going again
I, for one, am glad you got there in the end.
I’m dazed and confused, but glad you’re working.
