I had a similar problem, after I saved my "new" customized layout.(I also have an XP PC.)
It took me a while, but I think I fixed it.
I went into the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS\Presets\Layouts.
I deleted my test layout. Without even re-booting, the PS CS standard layouts were back in the drop down menu.
However, I still think the Automated Picture Package layouts are not right (photos come out skewed- not centered, with uneven borders, etc.). I don’t know what to do to adjust them now, so I’m looking for a solution – again.
