Your RAW color picture can be converted in photoshop very simply. Although there are many ways to do this, I usually use this method.

Assuming you have a RAW plugin for photoshop (either from the camera manufacturer or the Adobe RAW plugin), open the RAW in photoshop.

Then go to image/mode/Lab Color

Once in Lab Color, go over the Channels Pallete, and click on the Lightness Channel

Go back to Image/mode/Grayscale and convert to grayscale. It will warn you that it will delete the other channels, click OK, and voila you will have a grayscale image.

where along the workflow of a colour raw picture to a b/w ink jet print should i convert to b/w, or should i simply print the final picture (which is still in colour) using the black only printer setting.
