I have a calendar template in .gif format, I want to place a photo in it for printing, how do I do this?
Have tried copying the photo file to clipboard and pasting, that did not work, can’t make import or place command work either.

Open both images in Photoshop, make the picture (jpg?) active, and drag the layer from the layer palette onto the Gif template image where it will create its own layer, you can then resize and place it where you wish.

I have to comment that Photoshop is not really the programme for this type of work, and a gif image of text is not the same (or as sharp) as actual text in a publishing programme!

Agree. Also gif is the wrong format for a template. Jim should change the Mode to RGB because Index won’t allow many things.
