I encountered this problem running Photoshop 7.0 under Windows XP. It has happened to many of my friends as well:
The "meanings" of the font size will randomly shift between two systems. Normally, a size 12 font is a size 12. But then, sometimes, a size 8 or 10 or 12 becomes microscopic and a size 300 or 400 more closely approximates them.
I’ve tried closing the program and opening again/rebooting/even reinstalling but it still happens…completely at random. The same size of the same font can even appear differently in two files opened at the same time.
Help?
