there are so many free tutorials on the net
in vid and print form
I find people often overlook the most obvious source at PS website and in the help in the program are several valuable tips

I also recommend opening a copy of a photo or picture and just mess around with the tools very free form

I use the book titled "Photoshop CS2", however, I often use tutorials and lessons from the internet.
