Just bought this. Trying to select from a garden picture with lots of dark(ish) grass – but can’t see the lasoo or the precision x-hairs against the green background – its there because I can see it clearly against the flowers (dahlias – IF that makes a difference.

I’m using a MAC G4 running OSX.06 with an LCD Screen

g-christopher,

You might try temporarily adding an adjustment layer to lighten up the image. When selecting dark portions this would be helpful and for light areas just make that adjustment invisible. When finished just delete this layer.

* on the tabs on top of screen, pull the ‘Layers’ one out of well and drag it partway down right side of screen
* double click the background, answer yes to dialog screen, to make it a regular layer * duplicate this layer
* (you should have duplicated layer hightlighted still) click on the ‘ying-yang’ looking symbol at bottom of layers palette
* choose ‘Levels’ in the list
* experiment moving the three triangles to different positions to change image temporarily—-probably moving the right triangle (the white point one) inwards to the left some will give you what you need
* when selecting lighter areas, just click on the ‘eye’ next to the Levels adjustment layer to make it invisible (and therefore not influencing the contrast of your image)
* right click Levels layer, choose delete when finished selecting
