Im just learning to use Photoshop, so keep that in mind. Whenever I create a new document, by default I get a number and a little icon in the upper left corner. To get rid of it, I have learned to hit command- h to hide the "View extras". Does anyone know how I can get rid of this for good? Thanks a lot. -Chris

Go under View >Show>Slices, and disable slices.

This is in the FAQs, by the way.

You are seeing a "slice" number. Slices are used to cut up large graphics to make them more palatable to the narrow bandwidth of the internet. On PS documents that are not destined for the web, you don’t care about slices.

To turrn off the numbers, go to Preferences > Guides, Grid, Slices and uncheck "Show slice numbers".
