Floating selection of composite image

Say that I have a bottom layer with a picture, and on top of it a number of adjustment layers. I would like to float a selection of the composite image given by the bottom layer + all the adjustments on it, and float it as a new layer on top of everything. Any idea how to do that, without having to first flatten the image?

Which version of Photoshop are you using? If it’s 7 or later, you can combine your layers into a single layer set, then duplicate the layer set and merge the duplicated set into a single layer and proceed. If you have 6 or earlier, duplicate the file (Image > Duplicate), flatten the new file and SHFT-drag it to the old file. (Shift-dragging centers the dragged layer in the new file).

An easy way to create a layer set is to link the layers and then click on the tiny triangle at the top right corner of the layers palette and choose New Set From Linked. To duplicate it, choose Duplicate Layer Set.
