I think if you hold the alt key down you get "copy" added. like when you do alt-f-A for file save as… i’ve seen it pop up if you hold the alt down too long. make sure you let go of the alt before hitting the A.
I’m just using File > Save (as) to save, not using the shortcut. I don’t think that can be it…
So Dave, it would seem Alt-F-A has sweet F A to do with it. <grin>
Gavin. If during your edit, you created an Alpha channel or some other feature which is not supported in a jpeg, Save-As will save a flattened copy of the file and append the word ‘copy’ to the file name. This is to give you an opportunity of saving the unflattened version as a PSD or TIFF.
Chris.
How would I have created an ‘Alpha channel’?
I’ve found that if I’ve opened a file (any format) and do any of the following, choosing Save as… (.jpg) appends "copy" to the file name:
* Added a layer mask to any layer
* Created an adjustment layer
* Executed a Select > Save selection… command, or
* Added or duplicated a channel
So, having done any combination of the above (or something else completely) could explain the results you’re getting.
I’m running PS 7, so to my knowledge it’s a CS2 "feature," not a bug! 🙂
Hmm… Thanks, then.. It’s just wierd that it never happened in CS, but has happened every time I’ve saved in CS2. Oh well…
