Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I have seen a number of full Photoshop workflows for converting color photos to black and white. But…

1. What is the best way to convert in ELEMENTS and retain the maximum tonal range and quality? Most files will initially be RAW (Canon DRebel) and output to print and/or screen.

2. I have not yet ‘pulled the trigger’ on a printer decision (HP 7960 and Canon i960 being considered among others), and may want to try a few ‘smaller’ enlargements at a photolab. Is this even worthwhile from black and white? Is there a ‘suggested’ way to prep the files for this kind of print?
