New Window does not open

Hello

I’m using Photoshop 7.0.1. .
Since a few days I’ve got a little problem.

When I want to put a new screenshot into photoshop I click File / New. But the "New" Window where I can select the preferences of the new Picture does not appear. The Background Userinterface is inoperable, so I’m not able to close Photoshop or doing any other Operations. All I can do is to press "return". Then the workspace appear and all is fine.

How can I view the "New" Window again?
A reinstallation of Photoshop was not successfully.

What you describe is symptomatic of a corrupted preferences file, reinstallation of PS will not correct this problem. You need to delete the file, restart PS with the control+shift+alt key held down.
