This is a cross post from the Illustrator group, because I can’t figure it out in Photoshop, either!

Ok, I know this has got to be as basic as it gets, but I am just not getting it to work.

I’m designing a logo, print quality, 4"x1" text only. The text is basic text with outline and drop shadow. I want the background to be transparent, so that when the logo is laid over graphics in PageMaker, the graphics show up under the text.

Everything looks good in Illustrator, but when I place the graphic in PageMaker as an illustrator file, it looks like crap, and when I place it as a tiff, it looks great, but upon converting the PageMaker file to a PDF the background shows up as white. I’ve also tried in Photoshop, and can’t get that to work right either. ARRGG!! ::::serious head banging::::

This has GOT to be one of the most basic uses for this program, right? Any advice? Suggestions? I’ve looked on the web for a tutorial, but haven’t found one for this issue. Is there a tutorial out there??

To preserve transparency you need to save your file as a GIF.
