Am I missing an obvious answer? A friend sent me a foto of a print from an engraving plate (art, not currency!) after I told him I could do most anything with PE. How do I get a mirror image? I want an image of the plate, not the print obtained from it. Alec

Do Control/Command A to select the entire image, then go to Image>Rotate and look at the choices. I think Horizontal might do it, but I don’t have anything that’s "inside out" to test it on. 🙂

Yes, Image/rotate/flip horizontal does it beautifully. Thanks, Alec

Thank you for the idea, I love to learn new stuff. I just made this odd picture using the vertical mirror image, this is fun.

Hi Jodi, It was supposed to be a space ship, but I got sidetracked by my grandson and our dogs and didn’t finish the picture right.

I just cant imagine where I was last Feb, when I got PSE for my birthday, I didnt have a clue! But now I have reached the point that I can really follow instructions here, follow tutorials, and am having a ball with PSE!
I am so thankful that I found this forum and all you wonderful people here last March! This stuff is a whole lot of fun, especially when it is so darn cold here, we can’t do much outside.

Jane, i know what you mean…imagine people that don’t have hobbies this time of year ?? Gosh, that is probably where the true term ‘cabin fever’ really came from….back in the olden days when woman weren’t allowed to do anything but housework…gosh, i would have killed myself. 😉

Hi Jodi, Cabin Fever, Yeah that is exactly what my husband calls it! We took off with our dogs out on to a spring-fed lake yesterday, thinking it was properly frozen, and one of our dogs almost went into a circle of open water where the swans keep it open by thrashing around.
That cured his Cabin Fever for this week, now he wants to go back to St. John, ice fishing off his list.
Maybe,,,,,,,,

Tempratures are much higher here; no snow, no ice, about 1-9 degrees Celcius. So no cabin fever. I would love to be able to sit in the cabin with my Elements and not being disturbed by anyone for days.
This forum is like a family come together.
There is however still one thing that surprises me: there must be hundreds of thousands people out there owning a copy of this wonderful software. I never counted, but I suppose there are probably less than 100 regualars on this forum. Where would all the others be? It isn’t that difficult to find.

Leen, it would be interesting to know how many copies of Elements have made their way onto people’s computers; how many have tried it; how many are still using it; and how many have given up and for what reasons. Perhaps there are many people out there who have figured out how to use it without our help….but I doubt that!!

🙂

People who find this forum….find it for a reason. Not everyone needs us and not everyone replies or joins in…they just ‘read’ as a guest. I read as a guest for a few weeks before getting my toes wet ( I saw that people here were pretty cool and that they would not judge me for being an….) anyways, not many have the time to be here either. I am lucky to be here…with my Adobe Photoshop Elements cult friends. 🙂

Leen, I think that the primary reasons to get on Forum such as this one is to troubleshoot problems,
or ask for help. Now, a few reasons to keep people from joining in are language (not everybody one Earth speaks English, although some try very hard to), lack of knowledge of this board (I didn’t know it existed untill a very boring evening, I had nothing to do else then surf on the Adobe website), and lack of questions / problems to discuss.

I think Adobe should add an icon that points directly to this forum on PSE3’s icons bar, with a short introductory page (like don’t write in capital letters, give some little details about your system and state the version of PSE you’re using, and bookmark this thread so that you can check it back in a few hours / days). Once users have clicked on Ok, they should be directed to this board.

I agree with Raymond.

I too found this forum by chance. Before that I had only heard of chat-boxes and then mostly negative things about it, although I knew that there were opportunities where people could discuss specialist matters in a more serious manner. This forum is one of these.
Like Jodi I spent a few weeks reading the various comments and then Grant asked for images for the challenge as his computer had crashed and because he is a little devil he posted my image immediately. That was it, thrown in front of the lions. Hadn’t that happened I probably would be an infrequent (floating) visitor and would have abandoned the forum after a while.

From what I understand several 100.000 people visit this forum monthly. The challenge makes it a very entertaining and relaxed sort of site and should have a low threshold for entering, but there you go, may be not low enough? 🙂

Raymond and Robert, I know you both are right; language can hardly be an issue as none of the three of us has english as a native language. I don’t know how may people speak english these days, but I suppose at least half a billion use it as their first language.
Unfortunately Bable Fish isn’t a universal solution. 😉

I agree with Ray ….

I struggled with Elements for months before I found this forum … and only then found it via Grant’s Challenge Page.

Suddenly little things I had been having problems with were clarified. One of them was how to get to the top of images when they have gone underneath the top bar … I had been resetting the pallette location when all I really needed to do was hit the TAB key. What a time saver that was!!

I have picked up so many things from this forum and there must be many people who could benefit from it … if only they knew it existed!. In fact, I wonder how many people give up using Elements simply because they get stuck?

Come on Adobe … let people know that the forums exist … who knows you may just sell more if they know they can ask questions here! 🙂

You can’t push every body top join a forum. People have to be motivated themselves. How many people received elements or 5.0 le for free and didn’t think anything of it.

I must admit that I found this forum by searching in the english language. But how many people go past the "english" site and search only in their native language. Although on non-english sites reference is made to the "english" site for the forums but how many do really go and stay there? I would say only a fraction of those that visit the many Adobe websites.

I bought a new digital camera for christmas 02 but didn’t care for the software that came with it. Couldn’t afford full blown photoshop. When I spotted Elements and read the reviews on it, There was mention of someone reading this forum and discussion of problems with Elements loading and XP. So I came here and was hooked immediatly. Rushed out, bought Elements, loaded it on (no problems there)and joined in the fun. Everyone here is pleasant, more than willing to answer my questions no matter how basic, and very encouraging. Many thanks to all the regulars and to those that just jump in occasionally for all the help.

In my case, I was shopping for a good photo editing program. I had read reviews about PSE, and wanted more information, so I came to Adobe’s web site specifically to see if there were user forums.

Of course, I found this one! I read the forum for a couple of weeks, and decided that PSE was for me, so bought it.

Tomorrow (Jan. 25) is my 1-year anniversary of installing PSE on my system. I’ve looked back through the images I’ve done over the past year, and am absolutely amazed at the progress I’ve made. Given that I continue to learn on a daily basis, I’m looking forward to seeing what I have accomplished on my 2nd anniv.

Honestly, almost all of the success I’ve had with PSE has come as a result of the people in this forum sharing their ideas and assistance. In the beginning weeks, I lurked on the forum and pored over every bit of information, using the problems and ultimate solutions as a study guide. Eventually, I chimed in.

FWIW.

Hi Byron, That is about the way it happened for me too, got PSE for my birthday late in Feb, and finally installed it in March. Then found this forum! I sure am pleased at what I have learned too, and it sure is fun. The only thing that I am not pleased aobut, is the lack of housework that I now do!

Jane, housework ? I kind of do a speedy gonzales with that first thing in the morning….and make things ‘look’ clean….just in case of unexpected company. Then just before hub comes home i do another quick run of quicky tidy. In between ? that ‘my’ time…well, sharing it with little ones who sometimes let me concentrate can be a chore as well 😉

Jodi,

Many people are just content reading the threads or view the images. The other thing is that you have to feel proficient in the english language too. I wonder where all the french or german speakers are as I believe they do not have a similar forum in their language.

However it is a typical thing for forums. The worth1000 site shows at the bottom of their site how many people visit the site daily. That are close to 100.000 people, but the number of people that join in a contest are at any given time to be counted in their 100’s.

Robert S,

You are certainly proficient in the English language. Your words read exactly as if it was your native tongue, I would never have guessed you are a "furiner" (foreigner). 🙂 Sentence structure and vocabulary are top notch, I tip my hat to you. Leen is also extremely accomplished.

Many of your photographs draw me in and fill me with emotion. I consider both of my Dutch forum friends to be "the man" behind a camera.

Nancy, thank you too on my behalf.
However, you don’t know how often I need my dictionary in my often hopeless efforts to decipher some texts. And as my dictionary is just only 11 years younger than I am, many US words and expressions (like "to bobbit") haven’t been listed yet. 😉

Leen:

Regarding Robert’s comments about many more lurkers than contributors to the forums.

I’m a refugee from PhotoDeluxe Business Edition–I just got tired of the hassle of coping with its shortcomings in the Win XP environment. It took a while to get past the Elements learning curve but it was well worth it.

I lurked on this forum some time before buying Elements and found the general tenor and helpfulness refreshing, and have continued to lurk because the forum is *helpful*, making a post on rare occasions to express appreciation for particularly helpful posts. (I should do it more often).

Generally,it would not be helpful for me to post because in my present state of newbyhood I have nothing useful to add to the forum. However, the forum has been extremely useful in bringing me up to speed with Elements (and digital cameras, scanners, printers, etc).

I’m guessing that my behavior is typical– that most people are looking for helpful information and are not at the stage where they can offer assistance.

Many thanks to all of you who patrol this forum and make learning easier for the rest of us.

Dim,

You would add a lot of value by asking all your newby questions. If what we believe to be correct that there are many more lurkers then those that actively partake in this forum, newby questions is exactly what need to be brought forward.
And since this is a friendly forum what is stopping you? 🙂

Dim, I agree with Robert.

A little over a year ago I went completely digital in my studio (I am a professional photographer) and a few months ago I dedicated part of a seminar I staged in Cambridge to enhancing images in PE2. I wouldnot have been able to do any of this without the help of people on this forum. When I went digital I had just only minimal knowledge of the endless opportunities of PE and I made many mistakes. If you go to the archives you may notice how often I asked "stupid" questions and I’m sure many people had the same "stupid" questions, but were afraid to ask.
I hope many "ignorant" people will join us as basic questions often bring forward something we all can use to increase our knowledge.

If you look back about a year here, I asked some really really "stupid" questions, but everybody helped immediately with precise answers and a bit of humor. From then on, I was not embarrassed about asking.
Then the same questions come up periodically (thank goodness), and now I find that I actually can help people!
We all start at the beginning, and we all need answers and help. So continue to ask! This is the best place to learn PSE, I still am pretty stupid about a lot of the basics, but am learning fast, thanks to these people here. And it is fun here too.
