I’m having a hard time trying to emulate a particular texture style for a tank model I’m making. Here’s some snippets of the style I’d like to create:

So far, I haven’t been able to make anything close to those. Could anyone outline a general procedure I could try to create similar textures?

Are you posting in the correct ng? How are you going to transfer the texture from Photoshop to the model?
See http://tinyurl.com/zndhn (pixel2life site) for three pages of texture tutorials.

I use XSI. Once I make the texture it’s not a problem to transfer it to the model, I’m just having a problem making the texture itself.

See http://tinyurl.com/zndhn (pixel2life site) for three pages of texture tutorials.

Thanks for the links, they were somewhat helpful, but they didn’t really have anything close to what I’m trying to do.

Ive been messing around with render>clouds, add noise, dodge and burn, and resizing, but I’m still having problems getting the results I’m looking for.

From your images, it looks like you could do something similar with a few "grunge" brushes on different layers. Play around with the transparency and layer styles.
