Hey guys. I have a black and white ink drawing, about 6"x9" or so.. and I need it blown up about 3 or 4 times with as little quality loss as possible. I also need a white outline around it. I have an older version of photoshop and can’t seem to figure out how to do either of these with any success. Would anyone care to help me out and get mentioned on the thanks list of my next album 🙂
Thanks,
Sam
Sam,
A 6"*9" blown up to 12" * 18" is a 4 times enlargement, therefore a 24" * 36" blow up will be a 16 times enlargement and quality will suffer. Idealy a B&W ink drawing needs to be scanned into a vector drawing programme (CorelDraw or Illustrator) where the scanned pixel(bitmap or raster, lots of "tiles") info can be converted into a vector image (mathematical formulae, coordiates, etc.) which would be resolution independant. You could try and select the crop tool, (C on the keyboard) set the measurements in the options bar to 12" * 18" (leave the ppi blank) and see what the resulting image looks like at 100% view. Do the same with a 24" * 36" crop.
To put a line around your image, hit ctrl +A to select the whole image, then Edit>Stroke and pick your stroke colour and how wide you want it to be in pixels.
If you’d like to post it so as others could comment on it, go to
http://www.pixcentral.com and upload your image. When you have done so you will see a box containing the html code for your uploaded image, copy this code and paste it into a new group message.
