photoshop 7 and photoshop elements 3 "quit unexpectedly when opening"

things I’ve tried:

a) trashed my prefs no luck
b) used diskwarror to rebuild drive
c) gave photoshop 7 a ".app" extension
d) reinstalled photoshop from disk
e) trashing the Workflow folder in /Library -> Application Support -> Adobe
f) temporarily disconnect from the Internet (pull out the cable)
g) download 10.4.7 update reinstall again

any other suggestions???????

Will it launch in a new user?

Do other heavy applications work, and do you have plenty of hard drive space (at least 20% remaining)?

q. BUKO (Will it launch in a new user?)
a. no

q. Allen Wicks (heavy applications work, hard drive)
a. nothing too computer intensive, mostly safari (2.0.4) to surf the web, bbedit 8.2.6 to edit text files, appleworks 6.2.9 basic word processing, excel 11.2.3 for basic spreadsheets, palmdesktop 4.2.1, stuffit 10.0.2, littlesnitch 1.2.3 to see what ports are outgoing (amazing to see what programs and sites do…)

I have tweaked os x, just a bit to close down some features I consider bloat:

<http://phaster.com/os_x_hacks/os_x_browsing.html>

basicially I use photoshop to tweak personal snapshots

<http://phaster.com/unpretentious/snapshots.html>

one thing I did notice is the last line of the crash log for both photoshop 7 and elements 3 is the last thing that happens before the thread crash

0x9a326000 – 0x9a327fff com.apple.iokit.dvcomponentglue 1.7.9 /System/Library/Frameworks/DVComponentGlue.framework/Version s/A/DVComponentGlue

is it makes a call to an alias "DVComponentGlue" but don’t know what "DVComponentGlue" is…. FYI I used EasyFind 3.9 in place of Spotlite to find this little bit of info out….

I have lots of disk space left, out of 250 Gb, I only use 70 Gb

FYI did some reading on this board and found something by Ann Shelbourne

<http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc18c2b/1>

she suggested "Try disabling Photoshop’s TWAIN plug-in by typing a Tilde in front of its name like this: ~TWAIN"

and this fixed my problem both in photoshop 7 and elements 3

Hubert,

Try posting in the Photoshop Elements forum; it’s a different program from Photoshop, and not many users of the full version of Photoshop here are familiar with Elements. CLICK HERE <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.eeb4f8b/>
