I’ve created a jpg file in Photoshop and saved it as 72 dpi. The pixel size is approx. 57K. It takes forever to load.

There are other images on the site with the same approx. pixel dimensions and dpi that are 17K. How do you do that?

I assume you mean it takes "forever" to load on a website? If so, how did you go about resizing it? The Save for Web feature of Elements gives you a wide range of choices for resizing JPEGs. If you didn’t use that, experiment and see if you can get the file size down.

I resized the image in photoshop. I did try doing the "save for Web" function. The size of the file decreased but the "size on disc" was the same size. I did try it again on another image and it seemed to work okay saving for web. What quality level should I select? Medium?

Shelly,

That depends on the quality and the page loading time you desire to present to your viewers. Check at bottom of Save For Web Screen and you will see an approximation for download time.
