Thanks for the prompt response and the link…

My original message wasn’t very clear. I want to add a copyright to a group of digital photos that I have and have never done this. Photoshop Elements is new to me and I want to do it without changing the quality of the photo.

Should it be embedded somehow to prevent unauthorized use or copying? Is this possible?

You can never really prevent unauthorized use. The best thing to do is provide the photo in a small enough size and resolution that they would have a hard time getting a usable copy.

Photoshop 7 has the capability to embed a ‘Digimarc’ watermark which is a digital watermark.

In PS7 to do so you choose Filter, Digimarc, Embed Watermark.

You have to purchase a digital signature’ from digimarc to do this. $49 and up. <http://www.digimarc.com/>

This does nothing to stop a pirate’ but will inform the honest Photoshop user that your image is protected. It also provides you with feedback if someone has used your images. Their web site says

‘Digimarc image tracking solutions provide an online report of your digitally watermarked images that have been posted on the web.’

When I answered I had assumed that the user was using Elements since this is an Elements forum. Even though I use PS 7 and PSP 8 which both support watermarking I still try not to post anything at full size and high resolution that I am terribly fond of. I guess I’m just a little paranoid. ;-))
