Can you save spot colours in CS1 – and not save files as a DCS file? I think you can save as EPS or other?

Yes, there are other formats from Photoshop that will retain spot channels.

The real question is where will you be using this file for output? What application will the file be placed into?

The destination application will be a limiting factor.

DCS2 is an eps that handles spot color.

you only need DCS2 if you use quark
