Image > Mode > Bitmap is grayed out?

I’m going through an online tutorial and they are asking me to bitmap the image, but when I go to Image > Mode > Bitmap, bitmap is grayed out.

Using CS3, jpg image, layer is unlocked (not background)

You can only covert to Bitmap from grayscale

Ah… grayscale. That must’ve been it. The tutorial was on PSDTUTS.com
