CS3 Prof … my crop tool has a glitch…reduces photo to tiny

My crop tool worked with my digital photos but then started reducing the cropped selection to something like 50k and less…instead of keeping the size in the megabytes

any way I can fix this glitch?
anyone else having this problem?

please help….it drives me nuts and I like to adjust pictures using this tool

Select the Crop Tool and click Clear in the Control Bar.
