how can i use the automate function to convert a number of images from jpg to gif, and resize at 50% of the original? so that they are "web-friendly".

First you need to create an action in Photoshop that does what you need. Then run the automate command and reference that particular action.

That might be a little tricky. To get decent results you might have to have user input to tweak the gif settings.

Actually, it’s more simple than it seems, which is why BLUDVLZ post was so short.

You simply create an action that does the following: Image|Resize:50%; File Save As. Then toggle the dialog for the Save As portion off, and run in batch.
