Need help cropping. I want to make an oval shape and then feather the edges.

Don,
1. Open image
2. Duplicate background layer and shut off visibility of background layer by clicking on eye icon on layers palette
3. With background copy layer active, select elliptical marquee tool and draw oval selection. Note that you can set the degree of feather in the box at the top
4. By activating the move tool you can move the ellipse around to suit
5. Go to Select>Inverse and hit delete on keyboard
6. Go to Select>Deselect.

Don,
Further to above, if you have Elements#3, you may also use the cookie cutter tool. After clicking on the tool, click on the downward pointing arrow at the top where it says "shapes," then on the right pointing arrow to get a fly-out menu, and click on "crop shapes." Then select an oval shape, drag it out and click enter.
