I just thought I’d add another way of handling this problem that might be simpler for some. Also, it avoids editing the Registry.

In WindowsXP (and most Windows versions) open [Windows Explorer].

Go to [Tools] > [Folder Options] > [File Types](a tab).

Be patient while the flashlight finds all file types on your drives. When this window [Registered File Types] is populated,
scroll down to the extension you want to change (jpg, gif, png…whatever). Select that extension and click [Change].

A new window pops up: [Open With]. In this window, scroll to the program you want as default opener for the extension you’ve selected. Click Okay.

You must select the extensions to change one-by-one. Otherwise it’s real simple.

Incidentally, for I have set all my graphics to Irfanview for the last 3-4 years and am real happy with it, also it’s free.

Hope this helps,

Bob
