I created some letter shapes for a logo in Illustrator. The client wants a bevel and emboss look that they sent me a sample of. The effect was created in photoshop and I was having trouble duplicating it in illustrator.

So I copied the shapes from illustrator and pasted them into photoshop as shape layers and applied the some layer styles to get the effect they wanted.

Now my question is: If I save the file as either a pdf or an eps, will it be truly resolution independent vector including the layer styles? In other words, infinitely re sizable and printable at the highest resolution the output device is capable of.

Thanks.

No, the layer styles are pixel-based.

If they are saved as a .psd, you can resize that via the Image Size dialog, with the ‘Scale Styles’ box checked.

If you then save this as a .psd from Photoshop, and the .psd is already placed in, say, Illustrator, the other app will notify you that the placed file has changed; do you want to update your doc.

That’s what I thought. Thanks

Not all layer effects are pixel based! Stroke, for instance, is not. I can’t remember off the top of my head which are, and which are not.
