Total Beginner – Looking to make a fill pattern from an image

I have a little 1inch X 1inch tile that I would like to tell photoshop to use as a basis for a fill using the paintbucket. I am designing a ship and would like to be able to fill large irregular areas with different floor tiles, but dont know how to tell photoshop to "scan" the tile image and use that as a pattern for the paintbucket to fill areas with…
Hopefully that question was clear 😛
At any rate, any help with steps toward doing this would be MUCH appreciated!

Patterns are defined by selections, so select whatever are the distinct parts of the pattern e.g. using the magic wand or a color range selection, then choose Edit –> Define Pattern.
