I have a number of photographs that have been in a large frame with part of each photograph masked from the light. Over the years the exposed part of each photograph has been bleached by the light. I would like to restore each photograph(all of it) to its former glory. Any suggestions of the best way to return the bleached middle part of each photograph so that it blends perfectly with the rest of the photograph that has been protected from the light.

It’s difficult, and will take a lot of practice. Basically you want to mask out the part that is not faded, using an approriate amount of feather on the mask. Getting the feathering and mask shape right are two of the difficult things. Then adjust the contrast, brightness, gamma, saturation, and color balance in the center portion. Those are the other difficult things. Good luck

Katrin Eismann wrote a really good book on restoring photographs. I suggest you invest in this book if you plan on doing much restoration.

See amazon for a preview of a few chapters and the table of contents.
