I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to duplicate an effect that is in an Encore tutorial. See <https://www.adobe.com/tips/encmenu/page3.html> Look at the text that says "into the wind". It has a cool background behind it that makes it look like the text is exploding out on the right and left sides. I think that there is probably an easy way to duplicate this effect in PS7, but I’m not sure what it is. Does anyone know?

Filter>blur>motion blur, set to 0°.

you have to rasterize your text first.

Thanks Jason, I had to create a copy of the rasterized text layer so that the original text would still remain crisp and the blurred effect be put underneath. However, this still does not create the same effect as what is used in the picture. I like the blurred effect as you described better but I’d still like to know exactly how to achieve the effect that the tutorial obtains.

Mike, there are probably a number of ways to get that type of effect. In looking at that screen shot, I’d say that the blurred white behind the unblurred text is actually not a copy of the text…(looks to me like 3 white rectangles with a Gaussian Blur applied, possibly within a selection that restricts the blur to a horizontal ‘spread’).
