I am currently using Win 98 SE but soon plan to upgrade to Win XP. I have several hundred gigs of scanned photos I need to archive. I haven’t yet installed a DVD recorder because of the confusing formats. Please advise!

There are several recorders that cover all the bases as far as the current formats go, choose your recorder carefully, the new Sony 4x looks good to me.

The weird thing here is, they haven’t even sorted out those formats and they’re already arguing over the next gen format for the 22/28 GB sizes.

You’ll never win no matter what you choose.

I just read somewhere (PC Mag??) that the new Philips drives support all current formats. It would be worthwhile, methinks, to search some of the reviews either there or in your favorite "pc rag".

You might want to look at one of these big external hard-drives. It would also be useful long-term when DVD settles down.

That’s my strategy. The wonderful thing about standards in computing is that there are so many from which to choose!
