Hi. I need some(a lot) help with layers. I understand
the concept of layers, it’s just i don’t know how to
do anything with them. Example… I have a jpg of a
plane in the sky and I use the lasso tool to select
the plane, then I copy it and it creates it’s own
layer. I name the layer PLANE-1. No problem so far.
Heres what I would like to know.

How do I save that "Plane-1 layer" to a seperate folder and use it in another picture.

In other words can I have a folder full of neat
layers I have saved for future use. Then if I had a
sky background and wanted to fill it with a plane I
could go to my "left-over-layers" folder and get a plane.

There are a few ways actually. One is to use Duplicate Layer from the menu or flyout arrow and make the destination document New. Another is to Select All, Copy, New document, Paste. Another is to make a new document of the same size and< holding down Shift, drag the layer over with the Move tool (Shift centers it perfectly). Whatever method you use, save the new file to wherever you want. You can drag or paste it into any document in the future. I am sure others will come up with some other suggestions.

Thanks, problem solved! These are the two methods I used and they worked perfect. Thanks for taking the
time to help.

1. One is to use Duplicate Layer from the
menu or flyout arrow and make the destination document New.

2. Another is to make a new document of the same size
and < holding down Shift, drag the layer over with the Move tool (Shift centers it perfectly).
