Hi Everyone,
I still consider myself a novice at using Photoshop Elements, and can use some help. I am trying to scan in color positive slides from my EPSON 1660 flatbed scanner. I click on "FILE", then "IMPORT" and then select "EPSON Twain 5…", and what I get is an error message in Adobe Photoshop Elements that says the following:
"Could not complete the Import command because of a problem with the acquisition module interface."
I get the same message when I choose "IMPORT" and then select "WIA-EPSON Perfection 1660…".

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO OR LOOK FOR TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM?

Many thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,
Scan the slides using the scanner software. Save the files to your hard disk and then open them in PE.

Juergen,
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, the reason I am trying to use the Import command in PE is because I can’t get the EPSON scanner software to save the slide images correctly to disk. So, that option won’t work.
I hope someone can help me solve the problem with PE, because I’ve worked with EPSON support, and they can’t seem to help me find the problem with my scanner software.

Many thanks though,
Jerry

If the scanner interface won’t work standalone, then unlikely you’ll get it to work as TWAIN either, until you find the basic conflict.

Meaning, it doesn’t seem to be an Elements issue.

Can you TWAIN into anything else?

Mac,
Yes, I can use Arcsoft software with EPSON Twain 5. Problem I have is that EPSON Twain thinks the images are Color NEGATIVES, and therefore the color comes out wrong. In fact, I can use the scanner software to get the images into Photoshop Elements, but they are all scanned as color negatives. The Invert command in PE does not correct for color negatives correctly. So, I just can’t seem to get this thing worked out correctly. I assume there is no way to use PE to correctly convert a color negative to a positive is there?

Thanks,
Jerry

It’s a bear to invert color negs in Photoshop/Elements, as the orange mask must be compensated for (and each emulsion of film has a different one, and even same type of film varies due to differences in film processing, especially from the cheapo places). But it can be done by samping the orange and subtracting that out. You can do search for the technique.

Are you sure you don’t have some setting wrong in the scan interface? It’s MUCH better to have the scanner software make the conversion from neg to positive.

Mac,
Yes, it would be much easier if the EPSON Scanner software worked properly. Then it would simply scan the slide (Color Positive) directly in without any conversion needed by any software. But, it doesn’t work right now. Too bad as it really complicates everything.

Thanks for the help though,
Jerry
