Hello. I purchased a MacBook a little while back and installed all my programs from my desktop computer on it. A while ago I noticed that whenever I attempt to launch Photoshop CS, it crashes immediately.

I attempted to reinstall it, but am having the same problems (I may have reinstalled it incorrectly, however).

I think the problem might be due to the trouble I’m having with "activating" Photoshop CS after I install it. The directions say I should select an option called Activate Photoshop CS Through the Internet, but when I click the button to do so, instead of taking me to an internet browser or such, the activation program just closes.

Since version Photoshop CS has been discontinued, how can I "activate" the program following installation?

If the crashing problem isn’t due to an activation glitch, then what do you suppose is the issue?

Thank you for your help!
– Krisha

Krisha,

I see you are new to these forums, so welcome! But be aware that you need to tell us about your computer for us to help. Please review: "How To Get Help Quickly" </webx?50> and provide the pertinent system information, including exactly how you installed Photoshop, and what system maintenance you did prior to and after installation.

Without knowing more, one cause of crashing upon launch is duplicate or corrupted fonts. Another is incompatible third-party plug-ins. And another is renaming or moving installed components of the installation or not installing Photoshop in the default locations.

If your new machine is running Leopard (OS 10.5.x), you should know that CS has many problems with that OS.

You are also running CS in Rosetta which means more problems.

That’s assuming Krisha purchased a new MacBook. We don’t know for sure, though…

It does not matter if the MacBook is new or old if she is running CS its running in Rosetta.

Hey guys! Okay, here is all the information about my computer and my problem. Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated. 🙂

Program: Adobe Photoshop CS Verion 8.0

Computer: MacBook

Operating System: Mac OS X Version 10.4.11

Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

When I launch Photoshop it crashes immediately. None of my other Creative Suite programs (Illustrator, etc.) do this.

I still have my serial / installation number. However, when I try to install CS it asks for an "activation number" (a different number than the serial number, I assume). However, I don’t see such a number anywhere on my CS installation CD case. And my other programs, excluding Photoshop, seem to work just fine in spite of this. So I’m not certain if this is the problem.

After Photoshop crashes upon launch, Apple offers me an error report. This is the information it gives me:

Date/Time: 2009-02-06 22:50:42.669 -0800

Try this from your user’s preferences folder drag this file to the desktop. com.apple.LaunchServices.plist as well as you Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder and restart your computer. See if that fixes the problem?

Thank you, Wade! That fixed the problem right away.

However, does this mean that I will have the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder forever stuck on my desktop in order for Photoshop to work? Or is there somewhere I can move it to make it less intrusive?

Either way, thank you so much again for all your help! 🙂
