Cursor disappears in Add mode (Shape & Selection tools)

Help! My cursor is completely disappearing when in the Add (+) mode of both the Shape tools and the Selection tool–making it very hard to draw shapes.

I can still add to a selection, I just can’t see the cursor when doing so. Interestingly, if I use the shortcut key (adding Shift while in normal mode) instead of changing modes via the options bar, I CAN see the cursor. Note also that this is the only mode that exhibits this problem. (Also, other tools, such as the Magic Wand, Lasso tool, and Pen tool, are completely unaffected.)

I’m using Photoshop CS2 on a Mac PowerBook G4. I recently upgraded operating systems from OS10.3.9 to the latest version of OS10.4. This is a recent problem and may have coincided with the OSX upgrade.

(Also, I’ve restarted the computer numerous times, and the problem persists.)
