Using CS4…

….how do I import a line art-based logo saved as an illustrator EPS file into Photoshop, without rasterizing?

– Opening the EPS in Photoshop will rasterize it.
– Drag-dropping from Illustrator to an open Photoshop document will create a Vector Smart Object that can only be edited by going back in Illustrator. – Copying the paths from Illustrator and pasting them in a Photoshop document will offer you to paste as a 1) Smart Object, 2) Pixels (rasterized), 3) Path, or 4) Shape Layer.

You’d think the Shape Layer would do the trick, except it pastes everything as one layer, overruling any color distinctions with one flat color.

Help?

You can’t. Not really.

Am I correct that you do not have access to Illustrator?

Make it a smart object by using the ‘place’ command to import it.

try to Copy from Illy and Paste into PShop and pick from a list of 4 choices.
