1. When edit picture from pdf (from acrobat 7.0.8) in photoshop cs2 901, source pdf can’t be saved after closing image in photoshop.

2. When opening picture in photoshop pdf format, program return "could not complete your request because of a program error". Pdf is saved from same photoshop on same machine.

What is that with cs2? I have buy 24 tlp licenses cs2 premium packets and i can’t work like in previous version? This is big disapointed for me from adobe.

How i can resolve above problems?

OS is legal xp with all s. packs.

First, you should update to Photoshop 9.0.2, it contains fixes for several PDF issues.

If that does not resolve your problems, please provide any additional information about the files that are causing difficulties. I am the engineer responsible for PDF features in Photoshop and am happy to help, but your description doesn’t provide enough details to know what may be causing the problems.

Best regards,

Guys,

All of a sudden last night, my Photoshop started up with the "program errors" whenever I tried to create a new document or open any existing one, rendering photoshop completely useless!

I’ve tried deleting the preferences on startup, I’ve deleted all the Adobe stuff from my user Library folder, and nothing is working! My friend had this same problem on his G5 with 10.4.7, he deleted all adobe stuff off his system, reinstalled, and it still didnt work. The only work around he found was to build a whole new user, which is a pretty expreme thing to do.

I’m running 10.4.7, Photoshop 9.0.1 on a MacBookPro

Mac forum is across the hall. I’m not sure what the implications of running PS on Rosetta are, but the folks in the Mac forum will likely have more insite than most of the people here.

I have Photoshop 7.01 with Windows XP. I moved individual items from one file to another, then when I save the new file, I get the error "Could not complete your request because of a program error". I have had to redo this project and it still does the same thing. This is the only problem I have had occassionally and I searched for answers, but everything is relating to Mac or CS2. Please help.

I’m running CS2 9.02 on Win XP. When I open a .pdf file, it opens normally. When I go to save it it tells me it can’t save because of a program error.

It sounds like I’m having the same problem as the people above.

Was there ever a resolution? I need to do some small editing of pdf files, then save as pdf for an agency I’m doing some work for and don’t want to buy Acrobat just for this tiny job.

I am having the exact same problem as Todd. I am running Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 on WinXP. Every single time I try to save or edit an existing image file (.psd and .jpg), or create a new one, I get the message that my command cannot be completed because of a program error.

I installed the 9.0.2 update, but it didn’t help at all. What can I do? I need this application to do my job, but right now, it is completely useless.

next step i’d take is reinstall photoshop and any plugins. might also think about any non-system fonts you may have installed. one or more might be corrupt.

"could not complete the import command because of a program error" Photoshop CS2 9.02 Win XP SP2 up to date patches. Similar program errors during other activities.

Reinstalled. Too many faqs to locate the one I need. Searching PS forum and KB provide no similar issues.

Ideas?

Thanks.

I am most grateful for your suggestion. I located and deleted the preferences file and restarted PS. However, the problem remains.

When I select FILE|IMPORT|EPSON PERFECTION and I briefly see the Epson scanner logo-box and then the error message "Could not complete the import command because of a program error".

This worked fine for me through at least version 9.0.1.

Note that I have reinstalled the scanner drivers (latest version) and that the scanner works fine with other graphic software ( Paint.net and other windows packages)

Any further suggestions appreciated!

I am having the same problem as well. The Acrobat Touchup tool doesn’t work on the PCs or Macintoshes I have in my lab.

They are all running the latest patches of Acrobat and Photoshop, and have had their preferences cleaned out.

And I am having teh same problem as well. XP, SP2, CS2 (9.0.2), all legal & fine. Today suddenly I am unable to open any PDF in Photoshop. Deleting prefs hasn’t worked either. As working with PDF in Photoshop is very important for my workflow, I am very anxious to find any solution. Productivity is down, who’s accountable? Have been using Adobe for more then ten years, but feel very very let down here.

I am getting the dreaded "could not complete your request due to a program error" whenever I try to open any kind of file EXCEPT for RAW files – they open fine in the camera raw plugin, but when I am ready to open in in regular Pshop it failed with that error too. I have tried removing my preferences, shutting off the internet, and changing my default printer to no avail. Any other suggestions? My next step is to uninstall then reinstall…..

Thanks,

Hi all, I was having the same problem with "could not complete your request because of a program error", which persisted despite reinstalling the entire app.

I finally solved it by following the directions for "resetting Launch Services", the instructions for which are on this page:

<http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetlaunchservices.html>

This will reset all file associations, unfortunately, but it did solve the problem. Happily OS X makes file associations pretty easy to put back to how you want them.

Now the "could not complete your request …" problem has migrated to the CLONE STAMP TOOL. After I select the tool and just as I click the mouse and begin to use it, the error pops up. I have tried every solution in the Knowledge Base except the "reinstall the operating system" suggestion.

From Googleing "could not complete your request because of a program error", it appears this problem is common for many Adobe products on both the PC and MAC platforms. No one solution appears to fix it. Odd. Guess I may wait a bit before jumping at CS3.

I have been having the same problem. I spoke to Adobe tech assistance this morning – it helped somewhat to change the memory settings in Preferences to 40% ( it was set at 70%).

The rep gave me this link that relates to the problem: < http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=3316 27>. I have not tried all of the suggestions listed in this document yet.

I fixed this problem on my computer, quite by accident, by fixing another Adobe CS2 problem. I am amazed – I was getting this error message every time I tried to work on a file in Photoshop. The message would appear 6-8 times when I opened a document, used certain tools, or used Levels. It was driving me crazy.

I could not find a solution to this problem that worked, so I thought I would try to find a solution to a different Adobe problem that I was having. The other problem was that InDesign would not open. An error message said it was missing required fonts. I found a user group that discussed this problem. Here is the link:

Someone in the forum explained that the missing required files are Adobe Application Support files. He gave us a link to download the missing required files and told us where to put the files. I followed his instructions and InDesign immediately worked. (Everyone else had the same results – it worked!)

The next day, I opened Photoshop CS2. I had six very large files (over a GB each) and was dreading the inevitable error message. Unbelieveable – it did not appear even once, and I have worked on several files since then, for the past few days. My guess is Photoshop needed the same support files.

So, go to the above user group that discusses the InDesign problem. Check to see if you have the required Adobe Application Support files. If not, download his files. There are instructions for PC and Mac as to where to place the files on your computer. Hopefully it will work for you!

I am running Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 on MS XP (Home) and am receiving the "could not complete your request due to a program error" when I try to open pdf files. The error only occurs for some pdf’s, others open perfectly. I have reduced preferences to 40%, deleted preferences, replaced the BASE and CMAPS files, change printers, disconnected internet & reconnected and the problem still occurs, randomly and only to certain pdf files. Any additional suggestions would be great appreciated. Thanks

I am experiencing the same problem as Bex (10:28pm Jul 12, 07 PST (#30 of 30)) on WIndows XP but when I am trying to use my clone stamp. The error message reads, ‘Could not use the clone stamp because of a program error’. And after being on call waiting with Adobe Support for 15 minutes I now don’t have much more hair to pull out and I’ve certainly run out of patience with them! Can someone please help as this is seriously affecting my workflow now. A huge thanks in advance.

Big Thanks – to Paul Ferguson. The problem I’m experiencing is directly linked to the PDF converter I’m using. From Paul (in case anyone else is experiencing the same issue):
"This file was created using GPL Ghostscript 8.15, and it appears that the Ghostscript software is not writing a tag that Photoshop expects to find with the image (the tag in question is called the /Image/XObject tag). Most applications that create PDFs do include that tag, but strictly speaking, it is an optional tag. However Photoshop CS2 was incorrectly treating it as if it were required, not optional. This is a bug in CS2 that has been corrected in CS3, and CS3 is able to open the file without problem. If you have any control over the production of these files, there may be other ways to generate the PDFs (such as using Acrobat Distiller) that won’t cause this problem. Unfortunately, simple approaches like resaving these files in Acrobat won’t add the missing tag.".

DEFINITIVE ANSWER TO SOLVE "PROGRAM ERROR" NIGHTMARE ONCE AND FOR ALL…

I will also add that the InDesign fix above FINALLY solves the problem totally for me. All the silly workarounds mentioned above are all red herrings and a complete waste of time! The problem is caused by missing files that the full CS2 installer doesn’t place where it should:

Firstly, for everybody (MACs & PCs), download the following — <http://www.public.newrandom.com/Reqrd.rar>

Now unzip/unStuff it. These are universal files that work on both platforms so don’t worry.

Now Quit PhotoShop CS2, dump the icon from the OSX dock (Mac).

For MACs – place the BASE folder contained therein to the following link from your Mac boot drive (Check you’ve got everything in the CMaps folder too to be sure):
Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/Reqrd/

For PCs – download the same link above, and place the two folders (BASE and CMaps) from it into: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts\Reqrd\

Re-launch PhotoShop CS2 manually…

NO MORE PROGRAM ERRORS! 🙂 Back to work now people.

If you’d like to do your own research then… go to the original post in the InDesign forum, scroll half way down, look for Domingo Chavez’ original posts and then see the other half of the topic for other people’s reactions.

mine has always worked. without the need for a kludge from an unknown source. i suppose if it works it’s a good thing for people who have this problem, and if they can’t fix it any other way some might take a chance, but personally i don’t load stuff on my system when it’s not from a known and trusted source. especially one where i do my production work.

Mark, put the reqrd folder back together again, VOILA. Working fine.(For now) Let’s just see how long it lasts.

We have 4 production machines running CS2, and I would always have this error after updating Acrobat 8. Funny, but if I updated Acrobat and then reinstalled Photoshop and updated, the problem ceased.

Anyways, thanks

I had the same problem on Mac OS X tiger and found out that removing the lan cable (internet connection) solved the problem (same fix as chelsea trenbeath mentions above). But Photoshop would only work until I replugged the cable – not a very handy solution.

After some research on the web I found that deleting this file: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist and rebooting solves the problem.

Notice that this has not been resolved. I have installed all Adobe updates, followed leads to resolve through various user groups and forums as well as listened to some diatribe from someone at Adobe over the phone before politely being told there would be a charge and then finally succumbing to the dreaded formatting of my drive and the hours to reassemble a working usable, bill paying computer. Within a few weeks I am back to the same issue!!!!!!!!

Actually I think I wanted to say that this is an ongoing issue and Adobe (as per usual) has done nothing to help their users resolve the problem. Apparently they don’t understand that the money they are costing me is money that I could have spent on CS3.

The downtime it has taken to resolve this particular issue, more than one time has been costly and since the creation of CS2 it has still not been resolved and now we have CS3. Nice work Adobe, you have time to develope yet another upgrade and no time to resolve ongoing problems with your current versions. I think Microsoft has finally stepped above you in providing decent reliability. I did not think that was possible, but they have. I refuse to be lured in to upgrading to new product thinking it may resolve a very on-going issue with the previous product. Thank god for Macromedia Fireworks I can still work today.

I have used and paid for Adobe products going back to the Aldus days and quite frankly for all the additions you’ve made to your product line, you have not done a complete job of building a reliable product for your new or old customers.

An to think that they are meddling with Dreamweaver now. Another great product bites the dust, Jeez.

This error happens when you are trying to double click on the plug-in itself to launch. When you double click on a plug-in Photoshop attempts to open the plug-in like an image. You want to first start Photoshop, open up an image, and then go to the onOne menu (between Window and Help) and launch the plug-in from there.

For what it’s worth, and I’m not sure that it gets any closer to a proper resolution, I tried something different.

I was getting the "Could not complete your request because of a program error" after having opened a gif file in CS2 then trying to create a new blank image file in CS2.

I tried a few of the fixes suggested here and none worked.

I then took a screenshot (ctrl print screen – windows) and opened a new image file in CS2 and pasted in my screenshot. This seemed to clear something and I am now able to create a new blank file again!!

No stupid error message.

Those of you who are members of NAPP go there and ask the question. You don’t have to use out side unknown programs. You can do it all inside Photoshop. It has to do with LR2 and meta data, and some other stuff.
I sent off an email to the person who helped me solve the problem asking to quote her on this forum. Her technique seems to work on two different program errors.

Ok, my ego just would not let me wait . .
===============
My Question: Trying to save a tiff to a jpg and it can\’t. It says due do a program error …. ==========
From the NAPP help Desk:
This error can occur in CS2 if a TIFF has certain meta data attached that is specific to CS3 or CS4 (particularly Camera Raw). Stripping the file of meta data should fix this problem. One way to do this is to press Ctrl-A to select the entire image, then go to Edit > Copy Merged. Go to File > New. The dimensions should be filled in automatically, so just click OK. Press Ctrl-V to paste your copied image onto the new image. Flatten the image, then save it as a JPEG.
============
ME: I had gone from LR2 to further edit in CS2 using the meta data forms in LR2, maybe that was the "feature" 😉 grin
Yours,
Tom
==============
NAPP: Yes, I forgot to mention that — Lightroom 2 will also cause this problem. Actually, I believe the localized adjustment tools (found in both LR2 and Camera Raw CS4) are the culprit. Camera Raw CS3 probably won’t cause this issue, but it’s still good to be aware of new features that aren’t found in earlier versions — just in case.
Hope that helps.

Dear John,
My comment was not to put down any of these forums. In this case however I was able to solve my problem QUICKLY and without any snide remarks who at times think there are stupid, inept, or lazy questions.
There is one forum member, who is very good in answering questions, however says "read the manual", or refers to obtuse links that do not really answer the question asked.
If I feel I might get one of those answers I go to NAPP or one of the other tech support sites. Do I have a thin skin . . . maybe. IMHO however, why add insult to injury, be held up to ridicule and so forth?
Also in this particular question you must admit the answer I found was elegant and did not put the program (or sanity) at risk.
I know that alot of members here just do not have the finances to pay for tech support but NAPP has the most bang for the buck.
Have fun.
Make pictures, moving or still.
