Hey there!

I just installed CS3 and bam, ran into problems.

I was sent a .psd-file (actually 3) which were created in Photoshop CS3 but I can not open any of them, because PS tell me
"Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document."

Also, I was sent a lot of .psd-files during the last years and I have most of them in my email-account. Unfortunately, I can’t even open any of them either!! And these were .psd-files PRE CS3 and worked just fine in CS2 …

I tried everything:
– Drag & Drop from Windows Explorer into Photoshop
– "Open as"

Nothing seems to work…

Anyone an idea? 🙁
I am pretty pretty frustrated

can you create a new psd. save it, exit photoshop, restart photoshop and open it?

If you still have ImageReady from CS2, have you tried opening the files there?

I deinstalled CS2.
But when I still had it, I was still able to open the older psd-files as usual…

I just could not open the newer CS3 .psd-files…

I have the same problem, too. I can open the files I create, but when I receive a CS3 file created on a Mac, I get the error. There appears to be no fix!!!!

Since this is a user to user forum, and the only way some other user could reply is if they had that exact problem and had a solution, you may need to contact Adobe for help

Had this for the first time last week but was able to resurrect the file in Corel paint. However, when it happened again not even this worked. This was on a file created on a mac running legal software and where the file was definitely saved as a psd. Tried it on gimp and that didn’t work either – any ideas on how to repair this would be gratefully received. Bloody annoying as Photoshop is normally fairly stable.

Saving over a network is not advisable.

Save locally and copy or move to the network drive.

Add me to the list of users with this problem. I spent hours creating a banner to use for a postcard in Photoshop CS3. Saved as a .psd file. Presto…I can’t open the file anymore. The only unusual thing I did was use a layer mask.

Not working across a network. Mac OS X, V10.5.3

Is there a fix or not?

Thanks.

I’m a Mac user and I’m working with CS3 on OSX 10.5.4 and I’m running into the same issue. I have dedicated 26 hours of my time creating 9 files in Photoshop, which are part of a project. I have saved them as PSDs and today when trying to retrieve them I’m getting the following error message with 5 of them: “ Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document”. I’m not saving over a network. Please provide some feedback, I’ve tried everything I can think of to open them and still haven’t been able to…I’m pretty frustrated.

Mac folks might try GraphicConverter:
<http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/263>

Open in GC, resave as PSD. I am about to try it since i am hitting the same exact error.

I saved and copied (drag ‘n drop) a file to a USB Flash Drive and can no longer open the file.
